Description & Requirements

On behalf of AWE, we are looking for a Commercial Transformation Product Owner  Outside IR35 for a 12 months contract based Hybrid London.


SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks.


What if you could work on something that you can’t test… but cannot afford to fail? Something that could have spent years on a submarine, is launched into outer space (where the temperature is below -250c), comes hurtling through the atmosphere, being heated up and shaken and then must work? Some challenge. That’s exactly what the team of over 6,500 people at AWE do every day delivering important work, in support of the most important mission – keeping the nation safe.


AWE plays a crucial role in national nuclear security. Their role in nuclear deterrence and their specialist technical assistance to nuclear threat reduction is vital in the defence against the most serious threats faced by the UK. Working to support the defence of our country, AWE has a clear mission to keep everyone, the environment, their products and information, sites, and everything around them, safe and secure.


The Commercial function within AWE plays a critical role in delivering the mission for AWE. A Commercial Transformation Programme is inflight and this role is part of the transformation team. The Product Owner role is to develop a product we have termed “Content Engine”. The Content Engine aim is to provide users within the Commercial function a guided journey across the Commercial lifecycle from how to capture demand from the business, tender process preparation and execution through to the contract management activities. As the programme launches new ways of working and new processes, templates, systems, it is imperative that once launched, all the users work to the define model. The Content Engine will not only provide a guided journey and detail the steps required at each stage but will also make available rich content such as guidance notes, training content, videos etc.


As a Commercial Transformation Product Owner , your main responsibilities will be:


Essential:


•Develop and communicate the product vision and roadmap, focusing on the guided journey and content-related features and functionality

•Define product requirements and user stories for Content Engine including content creation, ensuring they align with the Commercial function’s overall strategy and goals

•Prioritize features, enhancements, and fixes based on value, user feedback, and content needs

•Work closely with stakeholders leads across technical, process, policy to ensure the product and content aligns with user needs and that of the guided journey.

Lead the product development lifecycle, from ideation and concept development to product launch and post-launch optimization

•Ensure that product features are delivered on time, within scope, and meet quality standards

Actively participate in Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives) to ensure the team is on track and aligned with goals

•Prioritize and manage the product backlog, ensuring that features and improvements are aligned with business priorities and user needs

•Make tough prioritization decisions and trade-offs, balancing business goals, customer needs, and technical constraints

•Develop and implement content strategies that align with product goals and user needs

•Develop strategies for content delivery mediums, including video, MS Office and other mediums

•Develop a comprehensive content delivery plan, outlining key objectives, milestones, and deliverables.

•Working with content creation team, to write, edit, and manage high-quality content for the product

•Work closely with workstream leads to align on their objectives, milestones and plans

•Collaborate with process and product owners to ensure content is user-friendly and supports a seamless user experience

•Conduct content audits, usability testing, and user research to refine and improve content

•Maintain content guidelines, style guides, and best practices to ensure consistency across all platforms

•Define key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success and impact of the product

•Establish regular reporting mechanisms to clearly communicate progress and outcomes to key stakeholders.

•Develop and mentor the transformation and AWE team in product management approaches

•Identify and address skill gaps within the team and implement mitigations as needed


Qualifications and Requirements:


•Experience: 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or similar role in a product-driven environment (preferably in technology, SaaS, or digital products)

Proven experience in leading successful delivery of new products with a heavy content bias within a transformation programme

•Excellent writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail

Strong understanding of UX principles and user-centered design

•Ability to conduct and analyze user research and usability tests

•Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels

•Demonstrated experience in creation of content strategies and content copy

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

•Excellent communication and presentation skills
