On behalf of UKRI - Medical Research Council, we are looking for an Involvement & Engagement Strategy Lead (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract hybrid working (travel required to various locations including London).


Job Purpose:

UKRI are looking to recruit an interim IESL to provide strategic involvement and engagement for the new Adolescent Health Study project and to support the Director of AHS and the senior executive team to deliver the tasks as detailed below.

About the Adolescent Health Study

AHS will be a new longitudinal population study and data platform to enable research on critical biological and social factors that affect development during adolescence, with a key focus on health equity. It is designed to be representative of the full range of socioeconomic and ethnic diversity in the UK, including groups that are often underrepresented in population research. AHS plans to recruit 100,000 participants between the ages of 8-18 years across multiple study sites.


As an Involvement & Engagement Strategy Lead, your main responsibilities will be:

  • Defining the issue and developing a project plan within one month contract start date
  • Conducting background research and establishing the evidence base
  • Identifying issues, developing principles and communicating insights and recommendations
  • Managing stakeholder engagement in the process of developing the strategy; establishing strong advisory relationships with key external and internal stakeholders, specifically young people, schools, teachers, parents and relevant others
  • Producing a range of targeted outputs to inform & assist the AHS director and study team, including a final strategy document within 3 months of contract start date
  • Planning and supervising any direct engagement work undertaken to inform the strategy (with young people or others)
  • Planning and supervising initial engagement work around protocol and participant facing documentation
  • Supporting the AHS director and study team in developing understanding and approach to youth engagement in the study, providing ongoing active guidance
  • Offering budgeting advice on stakeholder engagement for the programme and input on best practices


You'll have:

  • Ability to analyse, review and evaluate data and research on young people’s lives, views and experiences
  • Expertise at producing summaries, briefings and recommendations for mixed audiences (research, policy and practice)
  • Project management expertise, ability to autonomously plan and deliver to time and budget
  • Understanding of the ethical and safeguarding frameworks that will frame the work
  • Demonstrable communication skills (writing, presenting, summarising)
  • High level of organisational skills, ability to manage own work
  • Good IT skills (Word, excel etc)
  • Degree level or equivalent academic qualifications in a relevant discipline


Desirable:

  • Expert knowledge of key issues in adolescent health and youth engagement in research
  • Experience of youth engagement in practice
  • Experience of a broad range of engagement work including with schools, parents etc.
  • PhD level or equivalent academic qualifications
