Description & Requirements

On behalf of DWP we are looking for a Senior Front End Developer for a 12 month (Inside IR35) contract. Hybrid working with 2 days per week required in Manchester. 


The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions, and child maintenance policy. As the UK’s biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. As such, we operate on a scale that is almost unmatched anywhere in Europe and most people in Britain come into contact with us at some point in their lives.

We are looking for an outstanding Front End Developer who can make a positive impact and want to contribute to the most demanding and exciting new digital service for the UK Government. You will have outstanding skills and be ready to quickly get to work within an agile multi-disciplinary team of Developers, Designers, and Analysts focused on the Department for Work and Pensions’ flagship welfare reform programme.



Essential:


  • Knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript, jQuery, CSS and Sass.
  • Knowledge of cross-browser considerations.
  • Knowledge of Responsive Web Design.
  • Knowledge of web accessibility and WCAG.
  • Knowledge of UX and usability.
  • Experience of building high-traffic websites.
  • Understanding of web architecture.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Proven experience of maintaining a large and dynamic code base.



Desirable:


  • Knowledge of client side build tools: grunt, gulp or similar.
  • Skills to build up a useful, robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment environment.
  • Working knowledge of Mustache templates, Java 7 and Node.js.
  • Experience with test driven development using toolsets such as Mocha and Jasmine.
