AMS PSR

On behalf of UKAEA (UK Atomic Energy Authority) we are looking for a Laboratory Assistant (INSIDE IR35) for a 3 month contract based in Abingdon.

UKAEA run the UK’s national fusion energy research programme, sponsored by the Government’s Department for Energy Security & Net Zero. They are on a mission to deliver safe, sustainable, low-carbon energy from fusion, achieving maximum scientific and economic benefit along the way.

As a Laboratory Assistant , your main responsibilities will be:

• Preparation of blanks, standards, solutions, and other materials, as defined in the laboratory’s procedures
• Carry out support duties for the routine functioning of the laboratory, e.g. record keeping, glassware cleaning, stocking up.
• Recording the analysis results using the Local Information Management System (LIMS) samples database, and ensuring the database is valid and up to date.
• Use of Electronic Clearance Certificate System for disposal of laboratory waste and ensure the compliance with UKAEA Waste Management procedures
• Being able to provide opinions and interpretations of results to the Laboratory Supervisor

Essential:

• Previous laboratory experience within a scientific, analytical, pharmaceutical, forensic, environmental or similar laboratory environment, with hands-on use of standard laboratory equipment and techniques.
• Demonstrable experience carrying out laboratory calculations, including preparation of solutions, dilutions, concentrations, data recording and accurate interpretation of results.
• Practical experience using pipettes and standard laboratory equipment with a proven ability to work accurately, safely and consistently in a controlled laboratory environment.
• Ability to follow written procedures, methods and SOPs precisely, ensuring work is completed in accordance with quality, safety and regulatory requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and data integrity, with experience maintaining accurate records, documentation and laboratory results.

Desirable:

• Experience operating or supporting spectroscopic instrumentation such as UV-Vis, FTIR, ICP, AAS, Raman, NMR or similar analytical equipment.
