12 month FTC | 14 hours per week

£59,631 - £69,548 (pro rata) | Location: Hybrid 50/50 - Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle or Northstowe (As we are headquartered in Leeds our preference is to appoint to this location and priority will be given to applicants based within commuting distance of the Leeds office.

 

Homes England is launching the National Housing Bank, a government-backed investment platform to accelerate housing delivery across England.

Responsible for supporting the management of a portfolio of Equity transactions for the National Housing Bank. For a senior portfolio manager, these will be larger or more complex either by purpose, nature of client or deal structure. 

Portfolio size will vary based on complexity with between 2 and 3 likely depending on the types of deals in the portfolio and interface with other team members. 

The post will report to directly to a Head of Equity, JVs and Partnerships in Portfolio Management albeit on some occasions there may be peer reporting. Line management or coaching other staff may feature. 

The role is to ensure that homes and funding are delivered as planned in line with the risk appetite and annual budget of the Agency / NHB. 

The candidate will need to provide strong stewardship, managing risks and Investment Partner relationships (including C-Suite) with Partnership documentation as the core relationship document. Regular monitoring, reporting and assurance are key features. Managing and maintaining the relationship with the client is a key factor.


The opportunity

Responsibilities include:

    Manage a small portfolio (typically 2–3) of complex equity investments, ensuring housing delivery, investment performance, and portfolio objectives are achieved in line with agreed business plans and budgets. 

    Build and maintain strong relationships with investment partners, developers, institutional investors, lenders, and other key stakeholders, acting as a trusted strategic contact at senior levels. 

    Monitor portfolio performance, identify emerging risks early, and implement appropriate mitigation strategies to protect investment returns and support successful outcomes. 

    Review and challenge business plans, financial models, and investment performance metrics, ensuring transactions continue to meet commercial, financial, and risk objectives. 

    Produce high-quality portfolio reporting, including analysis of key financial indicators such as IRR, NPV, cashflows, dividend yields, and overall asset performance. 

    Ensure compliance with transaction agreements, governance requirements, and delegated authorities, while contributing to continuous improvement of portfolio management policies and practices.

 

Candidate profile

    Experienced investment, portfolio management, corporate finance, banking, or real estate professional with a strong track record managing equity investments or structured lending portfolios. 

    Strong understanding of real estate investment structures, risk management frameworks, and the commercial drivers of housing and property development projects. 

    Confident financial analyst with advanced modelling skills and experience interpreting investment returns, discounted cashflows, IRRs, yields, and funding structures. 

    Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, including senior executives, board-level contacts, investors, and professional advisers. 

    Skilled in identifying and resolving portfolio underperformance or emerging risks, balancing commercial priorities with robust governance and stewardship. 

    Self-motivated and highly organised professional seeking a flexible, part-time opportunity, with the ability to work independently, prioritise effectively, and deliver high-quality outcomes in a complex investment environment.
