On behalf of Defra, we are looking for a Life Safety Systems Manager (Inside IR35) for a 3 to 6 month contract which is a hybrid role so does require up to 3 days a week in the Weybridge office

SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be willing & eligible to undergo checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
The candidate responsible for making sure all the systems that protect people in an emergency are working properly, legally compliant, and safe to use.
Please note there may also be the requirement to be on call for emergency calls as part of the role
As a Life Safety Systems Manager, your main responsibilities will be:
- Make sure fire alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting and other safety systems work correctly.
- Check that buildings are safe for people to work in.
- Oversee contractors who maintain or install safety equipment.
- Investigate incidents or system failures.
- Review plans for new buildings, refurbishments or upgrades to ensure safety requirements are met.
- Carry out audits and inspections to make sure the organisation complies with regulations.
- Advise senior stakeholders on safety risks and improvements.
- Plan future maintenance and replacement of critical safety systems.
Essential Skills
- A strong engineering or technical background.
- Experience with fire and life safety systems.
- Worked in highly regulated environments such as laboratories, pharmaceutical sites, defence, healthcare, utilities, nuclear or large public-sector estates.
- Experience managing contractors and ensuring compliance.
- Professional qualifications such as CEng, IEng, IOSH or similar.
